Sacramental Preparation (Ages 6-12)

Sacramental Preparation Classes

Sacrament Eligibility

Sacrament Prep is a 3-year process and begins in 1st grade at St. Gabriel the Archangel. Sacrament preparation is supplemental to a standard academic religious education. Diocesan policy states that both Catholic school children and non-Catholic school children are required to attend the sacrament preparation through their home parish formation program. Sacrament preparation sessions build upon one another and attendance is considered mandatory. A child should not miss a session without due cause. If attendance becomes a recurring issue, they may need to wait to receive their Sacraments when all commitment and formation requirements can be fulfilled.

Baptized children ages 6-9 are eligible for First Reconciliation and should register for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level Two.

Baptized children ages 9-12 are eligible for First Reconciliation and should register for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level Three.

Confirmation and First Holy Eucharist candidates are eligible if they are in third grade or above, have been baptized and have completed their 1st Reconciliation. They also must have completed a full year of faith formation immediately prior to the year they enroll for  Confirmation/1st Holy Eucharist Prep. Candidates for Confirmation/1st Holy Eucharist who did not attend Catechesis of the Good Shepherd last year will receive preparation through the Saints Among Us book program this year.
