The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains forever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end.” (CCC 2258)
Respect for Life Ministry‘s main goal is to attempt to educate the people to the atrocities inflicted upon a human being starting from conception, throughout one’s life, up until death. To inform the people of the injustices pushed upon those who cannot care for themselves; a classic example is the elderly. And to enlighten parents, young adults and teens to the prejudice’s, falsehoods and untruths that bombard their daily lives. Last but not least, we not forget the thousands of people in our prison system. To support and help those in need in varies capacities whether it is through monetary means or material items.
This ministry accumulates written material on all facets of life, such as; Abortion, Abstinence, Birth Control, STD’s, Embryonic Stem Cell and Euthanasia to name only a few. Our volunteer’s will monitor health issues and new laws. We, in turn, write about these issues and other matters that come up to bring them to your attention. We sponsor “Cradle Sunday” at which we collect items for babies and then drop off these items to the Life Choices Women Clinic in Phoenix. We plant white crosses on our lawns at church to bring attention to the 15,000,000 million, and counting, American babies who have been killed since 2000. We also do voter registration. There are important functions that can be accomplished at home so even our homebound or physical challenged parishioners can become involved.
Volunteers are needed mostly during our “drives”. October is Pro Life month and January 22 is the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. This is usually a busy time for this ministry. Then again around Mother’s or Father’s Day we will do our “Cradle Sunday” drive. We will meet occasionally in the Chapel and say the Rosary. Most if not all of these events will take place at St. Gabriel’s Church.
On the average, about ½ hour here and there is the time commitment for this important ministry. A total of 2 hours of your time per year maybe, unless something comes up and even then there is no obligation. No kidding, no guilt. So come join us I promise you, you will not regret it and you will have a great time while doing it! Life is Sacred!
