Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word is a special part of the 8:30 AM
Sunday liturgy. Children age three and older are invited to hear the Word of
God in a version of the Sunday scripture especially prepared by the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops and approved for children.
At the beginning of Mass, the children are invited to the altar by
the celebrant, blessed, then led to the Parish Hall by their catechists.
Liturgy of the Word begins with a song, followed by readings and
psalms/responses from the Children's Lectionary and reflection. Older children
may be invited to assist with the scripture readings. Adults lead the prayer
and reflection on the Word. Liturgy of the Word concludes with a circle of
prayers offered by the children. The
children return to their families during the Offertory when the congregation is
seated.
Through Liturgy of the Word, we seek to:
- involve the children in the liturgy--the joy of song, the holiness
of silence, the richness of ritual, and the colors of the liturgical seasons,
-
show them the Wonder of God's Word, and
-
show each child that they are important participants in the
liturgy of God's Word, thereby enriching the entire parish family.
Parents are encouraged to periodically accompany their child to Liturgy of the
Word and assist with the care of all children. Teens or adults interested
assisting with the Children's Liturgy of the Word one or more Sundays during
the year should contact Roxanna Clower at the parish office. formation@stgacc.org
