Confirmation with
First Eucharist (Communion)
In the Diocese
of Phoenix it is the norm to celebrate Confirmation and First Eucharist in the
same celebration when the candidate is in third grade, However, if a child is
older than this, but baptized Catholic, the child can still be prepared for reception
of the Sacrament of Eucharist.
As part of the
child’s preparation, the parents will be given written materials to assist them
in sharing with their child, reading to them, preparing with them, and praying
with them. During the preparation, the following will be emphasized:

Attendance at
the retreat is mandatory for the child and at least one parent. Please see the
Confirmation section for information on sponsors, Confirmation names, and other
issues related to Confirmation for your child. If you have questions about

NOTE:
Sacramental preparation for children through high school is in addition to a
“regular program of religious formation.”
